Chateau Elan Duathlon 2005

I participated in my first Duathlon this year. I was nervous at the start but everything was very organized and guides were at every corner to make sure everyone stayed on the course.
The transitions went well and my coach/wife got me through it with minimal anxiety.

The first 2.5 mile run was faster than my usual time at 23 minutes. I was cold and tired but still in the race.

I made up for lost time on the 13 mile bike portion of the race. I was able to pass a lot of the faster runners especially on the hills. Police were at every corner which made for a safe and enjoyable ride. Next year I’m going to wear full finger gloves.

The second 2.5 mile run was hard. I got a little discouraged but ignored the voices in my head and pressed onward. The last half mile was uphill but I could see the finish and knew that my beautiful wife/coach was waiting with a smile.

I finished in 1hour and 46 minutes which is good for a first time participant. The rest of the weekend at the spa went really well. We sat in the hot tub to soothe my sore muscles and enjoyed the fine wine and cuisine that Chateau Elan is famous for around the world. We even had lunch at the gazebo where we got married two years ago. I must note that a Long Island Iced Tea works just as well as Advil

I can't wait until my next race in April

Time

I lost a relative and a friend this weekend. Dying actually isn't a sad event but for some reason the heart still feels a bit of sorrow. I'll miss the two of us sitting around and playing the blues on guitar slightly out of tune but no one really cared. It was all about having fun and enjoying the moment. Life is not about things or money but enjoying the time we have to share with the people we love. My Uncle Bobby may have left his frail body behind but he is still with me in my heart mind and soul.

See you in the next world and say hello to Hendrix for me
